A Portable Art Portfolio

For years I have carried a small folding paper-based portable art portfolio with me everywhere I go. Dog-eared and well worn, it served it’s purpose as a quick tool to share my art with others. It has it’s limitations – it holds only 12 pieces – and updating it with new work is a labor of love (print out thumbnails, cut thumbnails, glue thumbnails to portfolio - you get the idea).
But no longer! I still carry my portable portfolio with me everywhere I go, but now-a-days, it is in the form of a sleek and ultra-modern presentation contained on my iPhone! Now, whenever anyone asks about my art, I slip the iPhone from my pocket or purse and take the viewer on a visual journey of my artwork. The crisp and colorful screen displays artwork beautifully, and switching the orientation from a horizontal to a verticle view is as simple as a turn of the wrist. The viewer can easily navigate the images themself, or I can set the presentation to slideshow, and even play some music in the background for a multimedia experience.
The iPhone has made updating my portfolio a simple and easy process, so now I always have my latest work with me. Next time you see me out and about, ask me about my work and I’ll be sure to pull out my portable portfolio for you to see.
What do you think about the iPhone as a portfolio? What creative ways do you use your iPhone/iTouch? Leave your comments here.

Lyn, this is incredible. It’ll be interesting to see how folks deal with the technology. While some people will always be more comfortable with something they can see/feel/touch/smell, the iPhone will undoubtedly thrill others. Another good reason your success is assured.

Me too Lyn. I love having my portfolio on my iphone, it’s made the cost of one justifiable!
And I just found a new fun way to use it for those on the road questions: ChaCha replies. THis is a real-person based search program. You send them a question, they look up the answer on internet and send you a text message. FREE. (as long as you are under your text message limits and I never use mine up) Its 242242 (chacha). Good for phone numbers and those odd questions that come up on the road –ie “are rose moss plants deer resistant?”
I also use Twitter on my iphone as a kind of mini blog.
And shoot inspirational photos for blogging etc. The quality is amazingly good for a camera phone,.

Lyn, I loved the paper one…and I’m sure I’ll enjoy the techie one, too! I can already see you smiling about having it in your pocket. I love it when technology makes life easier. Of course, unlike a paper portfolio, you’re not likely to hand your iPhone to a stranger while they linger over your portfolio. Just shows you there are tradeoffs with everything.
Up to the minute is worth it!

I have my portfolio on my iPod (classic).
Not as cool as an iPhone, but hey, it’s paid for.
