Dear Art Lover,

It’s hard to believe that January is almost over. The days are getting longer and here in Northern California some of the trees are already in bloom.

I’ve spent the winter months working on a new body of work to be exhibited in the spring for the annual Silicon Valley Open Studio event. I’m calling it "Close to Home". The imagery stems from personal references regarding the concept of home and what being close to it represents.

This body of work takes a new direction and moves away from edition printmaking into the realm of mixed media digital one-of-a-kind pieces. This is quite exciting for me as I am finding ways to intersect traditional art making with digital processes.

~~~ FRIENDS IN THE ARTS ~~~
Check out the paintings by friend and artist Mary Ann Strandell. I first met Mary Ann during The Studio at SIGGRAPH 1999. She is a painter, printmaker and fellow digital artist. Mary Ann’s work moves from pictorial constructions influenced by photography and the post-impressionist painters to divisionist mosaic-like pixels surrounding vignettes of image and ground. They are cheerful and light in palette. See some of her work at: http://www.elliotsmith.com/FrontArtistList.cfm?ArtistID=206
